Downward Dog & Upward Goat

Love yoga? Love nature? Love goats?
Well, then I have the perfect little adventure for you.

Go-ga; Goat Yoga!

Back in May of this year my friends and I saw on www.syracuse.com that goat yoga was coming our way. For a while before this had popped in our news feed, other cute videos of goat yoga from all over the country had flooded our social media pages.  It showed rooms filled with people in gentle yoga poses with little baby goats running and jumping all over; how could you not radiate positive vibes with that going on?

So when this surfaced coming our way, we had to hop on it! We scheduled our date for July 10th and anticipated its coming.

You may think well what is the point of this? I do yoga to concentrate and be conscious of my body and mind. I love goats but I don't know how to do yoga, should I go? So many questions may have been asked and are still being asked to this day when people see that I have attended and all the answers are, JUST TRY IT!

The whole point of this class was to 1) let all those who are afraid to participate in yoga, can and not feel judged. 2) for those who do attend or practice yoga religiously to just do a class that you do not have to be so wrapped up in and flow freely with a huge smile on your face. 3) to just have a great time with positive people and positive animals around you.

I would say more than half the class time, people would drop from their poses from laughing so hard. The goats were so friendly and SO funny! It was such a great time.

Not only was it a good time, it was done at such a great place. It was done at Purpose Farms in Baldwinsville, NY. This farm pairs children ages 6-18 who have been abused or neglected with animals who have been through the same emotional or physical trauma for healing purposes. They use these tactics for healing purposes for both the children and the animals.

Holding events at the farm like goat yoga, gets the animals more exposure to people. Even though they were extremely friendly, had no problem coming up to us, and letting people snuggle them, exposure like this is great for them and for future visits for the children.

Sure, there was some incidents of accidents on a couple mats, but hey- that is totally expected. And a little peacock at the farm told me Pig Yoga might be on its way!

Thank you Syracuse Yoga for putting this on and thank you Purpose Farm for hosting ! It was such a fun experience. I think I can speak for everyone and say we definitely need more goat yoga!
